Katie, James, Alex, Ian & Hamish from City of Bristol Rowing Club



I thought I would share this with everyone – I’m sitting in the bow (top of your picture – with the brown woolly hat). This picture shows us at the Fours Head in London a few weeks ago. We also just raced in one of our local races at Avon and broke the course record – chuffed to bits. The race is about 7k and we completed it in a time of 25:58.56.

When we started the race it was -7 degrees, but warmed up to a balmy -3 by the end!

Back to training for races in February, will keep you posted – anybody else crazy enough to be on the water first thing in the mornings, or in the evenings then let me know

Solar Powered signs for children

This is me teaching Year 2 pupils @ Yatton Infant School. My daughter goes there and my wife was talking to one of the teachers, who asked if we could come in and talk about solar power as the children were learning about the planet and the harm fossil fuels were doing.

It was a great experience – very different from teaching teenagers. My daughter had helped me make a battery from an old shoe box, with a little 6V battery and light. The children rubbed their hands and put them into the “molecules” to light the bulb – all very excited when it lit up.

One of the children asked why don’t we use solar more?, especially if it saves the planet from being dug up! How incisive children can be..

Paul, currently in Egypt, Kite surfing!

 Since Christmas, nearly all the Signscape team have kept to their New Years Resolution by staying to stay fit and healthy.

Sue is running on a regular basis and is now a black belt in Pilates….

Jeremy has joined a gym and is doing spinning classes…

Hamish has started road riding and converted his garage into a bit of a gym…

Ann is on a diet, Paul is busy kite surfing, Colin is running round after his kids and Mike is helping with his kids football, Donna is running up and down the stairs to Production.

Jeremy, Paul and Hamish plan on cycling across Dorset at end of May – a 102 mile ride, we’ve all just started training and will keep you posted.
